The spiral pattern, called a  Shima pattern, is created by making cuts on the surface of this Kyusu. Since they are all done by hand, each one is unique, creating a truly one-of-a-kind Kyusu.

Pottery: Tokoname, one of the Six Old Kilns of Japan, has been a pottery center since the 12th century and is especially famous for its unglazed pottery.
