Benifuki is the name of the cultivar of this beautiful tea. This cultivar was developed in 1905-1910 in Japan. The leaves are greenish gray and black and somewhat of an irregular shape. It brews a beautiful amber color that is bright in the cup. It starts off smooth, and then astringency seems to appear a little later. The brew color is light, but the flavor is stronger than you might expect. It has a little sweetness, an element of woodsy, and is all together pleasant. You could drink this tea all day and want more.
